Nouveau Antique Bar Wedding | Katrina + Nick

A rainy day in Houston set the perfect mood for this eclectic, colorful Nouveau Antique Art Bar wedding – and honestly, I can’t imagine Katrina and Nick celebrating anywhere else. Between the vintage decor, glowing Tiffany lamps, packed dance floor, and incredibly chill energy these two brought into the day, this wedding felt less like a formal production and more like one giant celebration with all of their favorite people. Which, in my opinion, is exactly how weddings should feel!

A Rehearsal Dinner That Set the Tone

Before the wedding day even began, Katrina and Nick kicked things off with a rehearsal dinner that honestly deserves its own spotlight. It was one of those nights where you immediately knew this group was here to have a good time.

With Nick’s heritage, Katrina surprised him by bringing in Polynesian hula dancers – complete with fire performances – and the entire evening felt like this unexpected, joyful blend of celebration, culture, and pure fun. It was warm, interactive, and a little bit wild in the best possible way!

A Rainy Houston Wedding Day Full of Vintage Charm

If you’ve never been to the before, it’s truly one of the most unique wedding venues in Houston. The entire space is layered with vintage finds, eclectic artwork, colorful details, and hundreds of glowing Tiffany lamps that create the moodiest, coziest atmosphere imaginable. As a photographer who naturally leans toward darker, moodier imagery, this venue was basically a dream to photograph.

And for Katrina and Nick? It fit them perfectly.

These two are artistic, creative, and incredibly laid back – the whole day moved with this easy, relaxed energy that made everyone feel comfortable from the moment they walked in.

April weather in Houston had other plans for us, though. It absolutely poured all day long.

Normally, I’m always down for a few dramatic rainy wedding portraits under cover somewhere, but this rain was relentless. Between protecting my camera gear and making sure Katrina’s hair, makeup, and dress stayed intact, we decided to fully embrace the indoor atmosphere of their Nouveau Antique Art Bar wedding instead.

Honestly? It worked beautifully.

The dim lighting, colorful lamps, vintage textures, and intimate atmosphere made everything feel cinematic in the best way. Sometimes wedding days don’t go exactly according to plan, but those unexpected shifts often end up creating something even more memorable!

A Wedding Reception That Actually Felt Like a Party

One of my favorite things about Katrina and Nick’s wedding was how intentional they were about keeping the reception relaxed and fun.

They included a few traditional moments — like the father/daughter dance, mother/son dance, bouquet toss, and a super fun sparkler exit — but beyond that, the night was really just about celebrating with their people.

And when I say Katrina stayed on the dance floor all night, I mean ALL night.

Photographing brides who actually get to enjoy their reception is honestly my favorite thing ever. So many couples spend the entire evening being pulled in different directions, greeting guests, or stopping constantly for photos. Katrina and Nick really prioritized being present and enjoying the experience, and you could feel that energy throughout the entire night.

One of My Favorite Reception Ideas for Couples

One thing I recommended for their reception was doing a “photo run” during the dancing portion of the evening, and it ended up being such a hit.

Instead of stopping throughout the night for endless guest photos or going table-to-table while everyone is eating, Katrina and Nick sat in the middle of the dance floor while guests rotated in for quick photos during a couple songs.

Not only did it keep things efficient, but it also kept the energy high and made the photos feel way more natural and fun. Everyone got their moment with the couple without interrupting the flow of the party — which, honestly, is kind of the sweet spot.

A Perfectly Imperfect Nouveau Antique Art Bar Wedding

This Nouveau Antique Art Bar wedding was proof that weddings don’t need perfect weather or rigid timelines to be incredible. Sometimes all you really need is a venue that feels like you, a packed dance floor, good music, and people you genuinely love being around.

Katrina and Nick created a wedding day that felt authentic to who they are – artistic, relaxed, colorful, and completely centered around enjoying the moment together. I’m so honored I got to document it all for them.
