Elopement photography at the Weatherford, TX courthouse
There’s something deeply special about courthouse weddings—especially when they’re held somewhere as beautiful and historic as the Parker County Courthouse in downtown Weatherford, TX. On a bright (and admittedly very hot) June afternoon, I had the joy of documenting an elopement that felt straight out of a southern film—intimate, emotional, and full of character.
If you’ve never visited the Parker County Courthouse, I highly recommend adding it to your Texas travel list. Built in 1884 using locally quarried limestone, this building is a stunning example of classic southern architecture. It recently underwent renovations that preserved and enhanced its original charm. The interior features all-wood floors and walls, and floor-to-ceiling windows framed with warm wooden blinds. The light that pours in is nothing short of magic—soft, directional, and cinematic.

J & L’s Sweet Courthouse Ceremony
Jayden and Luke chose this beautiful courthouse to exchange vows, and the entire experience felt effortlessly romantic. I met them in the upstairs courtroom—spacious, quiet, and glowing with natural light. Friends and family gathered quietly in the wooden benches while the judge, who was wonderfully friendly, arrived to begin the ceremony.
The moment Jayden walked down the courthouse aisle in her veil and elegant, floor-length gown, Luke couldn’t hold back tears. It was such a touching moment—raw and real. Jayden smiled back at him with so much grace and love. Luke looked sharp in his suit and cowboy hat (a classic and wholesome Texas groom vibe), and the two of them together just radiated joy.

Indoor Portraits with a Cinematic Edge
After the ceremony, everyone lingered and mingled a bit, offering congratulations and hugs. Because the courtroom was spacious and so beautifully lit, I decided to keep all the group and family portraits indoors. Using my off-camera flash, I leaned into the natural shadows and highlights in the room to add a bit of drama and depth to the photos—especially against those gorgeous wooden walls and tall windows.
When it came time to take portraits of just the couple, I got to truly play. I positioned them in front of the tall, blinded windows and used backlighting to create a silhouette effect, then popped the flash from behind. The result? A moody, cinematic look that felt like a still from a romantic drama set in old western Texas. These might be some of my favorite images I’ve ever taken. It told their story without being obvious—like they were the stars of their own film, without ever having to perform for the camera.
One of the things I love most about elopements, especially something like this Parker County Courthouse elopement, is the lack of pressure. We weren’t chasing a strict timeline, or navigating a hundred moving parts. It was quiet. Simple. Relaxed. Just me and the couple, vibing and creating something real together.

Wrapping Up with Champagne & Cheers
We wandered through the courthouse, stopping along the wooden staircases and using the dramatic window lighting for more creative shots. Then we stepped outside for a few more portraits in natural light. As we walked along the sidewalk, passing cars honked and strangers cheered them on—Weatherford really showed up with that small-town charm.
To close out the day, we walked across the street, shook up a bottle of champagne, and let it explode in celebration. These are always some of my favorite photos—full of laughter, unpredictability, and pure joy.
While I’ve always loved full wedding days and all the detailed storytelling they bring, courthouse elopements are quickly becoming a new favorite. They allow so much room for creativity, connection, and calm—and for couples like Jayden and Luke, it was the perfect way to start their story.
