This Arizona destination wedding at Lost Dutchman State Park was the perfect mix of desert adventure, intimate moments, and a relaxed, joy-filled celebration from start to finish. Between the gorgeous desert scenery, intimate ceremony, downtown Phoenix blue hour portraits, and a spontaneous pool jump to end the night, this entire day felt unapologetically them from beginning to end.
Destination weddings like this are exactly why I love what I do!
Starting the Day Slow
One of my favorite things about elopements is how much freedom couples have to truly make the day their own. There’s less pressure to perform and more room to actually experience the day together – which fit Kressyn and Casey perfectly.
The morning started slow and easy at their Airbnb in Phoenix with one of my favorite parts of the entire day: a couples boudoir session before the wedding festivities began. It was intimate, playful, cozy, and honestly such a great way for them to release any anxiety before the day unfolded.
Kressyn has always been someone who fully embraces the experience of being photographed, and Casey adores when she’s happy. The dynamic between them is incredibly sweet and effortless in that way. Nothing ever felt forced or overly posed – they just naturally are together.

A Beautiful Lost Dutchman State Park Elopement
Arizona Destination Weddings in the desert are so beautiful.
Later that afternoon, we headed out to Lost Dutchman State Park for their ceremony.
If you’ve never been there before, it’s genuinely one of the most beautiful places for an Arizona elopement. The desert landscape feels endless, the mountains almost look painted in the distance, and everywhere you turn there’s texture and color and these incredible sweeping views.
The weather had been cloudy most of the day – which honestly kept things super comfortable for April in Arizona – but the sun decided to make an appearance right as the ceremony began. We ended up getting the prettiest soft light for portraits afterward without anyone melting in desert heat, which truly felt like a win!
Kressyn looked adorable in her flowy boho dress while Casey kept things a little more casual and relaxed, which matched the vibe of the day perfectly. Her siblings joined them for the ceremony, keeping everything intimate and centered around the people who mattered most.

Why Destination Weddings Feel So Intentional
One thing I always tell couples is that destination weddings and elopements do not have to mean massive productions or expensive overseas travel!
For these two, Arizona simply made sense. Casey has family there, so traveling to Phoenix was easier than asking everyone else to travel out of state. And because they intentionally kept the day smaller and more relaxed, they were able to focus on what they actually cared about: being together, celebrating with family, eating amazing food, and having fun.
As someone who absolutely loves traveling for weddings and sessions, I also love reminding couples that you are never limited to photographers local to your destination. If you connect with someone’s work and feel comfortable with them, bringing your photographer along can make such a huge difference in your overall experience! This is why I especially loved this Arizona destination wedding – it was intentional in that the day’s plans were to marry the two, but it was also carefree and whimsical.

Blue Hour Portraits in Downtown Phoenix
Why end this Arizona destination wedding in the desert?
After the ceremony, we headed into downtown Phoenix for dinner at The Arrogant Butcher, which was genuinely delicious. That chicken entrée and wine, still lives rent free in my head, honestly. 🤤
Once dinner wrapped up, we snuck away for some blue hour portraits in the city streets before heading back to the Airbnb. Those photos ended up feeling so them: fun, flirty, carefree, and connected without trying too hard.
And then, because these two fully committed to making the day memorable, they shared their first dance in the rain on the back patio before jumping straight into the pool together with family to end the night.
Which honestly felt like the perfect ending to a day that never once felt performative or overly structured. Just intentional, joyful, and real.
