A Golden Hour Maternity Session at Airfield Falls
This Airfield Falls maternity session with Malayah and Preston was the perfect way to celebrate Mother’s Day weekend and the upcoming arrival of their little one. Between the warm spring weather, golden hour light, and lush greenery, Fort Worth provided a beautiful backdrop for documenting this exciting season of life.
Held during Mother’s Day weekend, this session felt like the perfect way to celebrate not only the upcoming arrival of their little one, but also the beautiful relationship they’ve built together. Between the warm spring weather, golden evening light, and the lush greenery that Airfield Falls is known for, everything came together to create a stunning backdrop for this exciting season of their lives.
Every time Malayah looked at Preston, she couldn’t help but smile. The way he made her laugh seemed effortless, and the connection they share felt incredibly genuine. There was no need to force moments or manufacture reactions because they naturally brought so much warmth and joy to the session on their own.
As a photographer, those are often my favorite couples to work with. When two people are completely comfortable with each other, the photos tend to feel less like portraits and more like memories.
Why an Airfield Falls Maternity Session is Perfect in Spring
One of the things I love most about Airfield Falls is how different it can look throughout the year. During the spring months, the area transforms into a vibrant landscape filled with lush greenery, making it feel like a hidden oasis right here in Fort Worth.
For Malayah and Preston, the natural beauty of the location was a huge draw. The towering willow tree in particular was one of the features they were most excited about, and it’s easy to understand why. Its sweeping branches create a beautiful, romantic setting that feels both intimate and timeless.
Combined with the waterfall, winding paths, and abundant greenery, Airfield Falls offers plenty of variety while still feeling relaxed and natural.
Tips for Planning Your Airfield Falls Maternity Session
If you’re considering Airfield Falls for your maternity photos, there are a few things worth keeping in mind before your session day.
1. Arrive Early
If you take only one piece of advice from this blog, let it be this: get there early.
The parking lot at Airfield Falls is surprisingly small. The location has also become very popular with photographers, hikers, families, and dog walkers. This is especially true on clear evenings during golden hour.
Even on weekdays, I recommend arriving at least 15 minutes early. On busy evenings, I’ve arrived more than 40 minutes before a session and still had to wait for a parking spot to open up! 😮
2. Build Extra Time Into Your Schedule
Many people don’t realize that some of the best photo locations aren’t next to the parking lot.
The creek, waterfall, willow tree, and grassy fields require a short walk along the trail system. Depending on where we’re shooting, it can take 5–7 minutes to reach the location.
If your session begins at a specific time, plan accordingly. Arriving early allows you to park, gather your belongings, and make the walk without feeling rushed.
3. Wear Comfortable Shoes
This location involves more walking than many people expect! Comfortable shoes can make a huge difference, especially during maternity sessions. You can always change into dressier shoes once we reach the shooting location. The goal is to keep you comfortable and relaxed throughout your session. 😊
4. Be Aware of Bugs and Wildlife
Airfield Falls is beautiful because it’s a natural area. During the warmer months, the tall grass can attract mosquitoes, ticks, snakes, and other cute wildlife. Encounters are uncommon, but it’s always smart to stay aware of your surroundings. If you’re sensitive to bug bites, consider bringing bug spray!
5. One Last Reminder: Get There Early
Yes, I’m saying it again. Unlike some parks, there aren’t many reliable backup parking options nearby. The lot fills quickly, especially during spring and fall.
Trust me: it’s much better to arrive early than to spend the start of your session searching for a parking spot!
Golden Hour Magic at Airfield Falls
As the sun began to dip lower in the sky, the golden light filtered through the trees and wrapped everything in a warm glow. The combination of soft light, vibrant spring greenery, and the natural chemistry between these two made for an unforgettable session.
Airfield Falls continues to be one of my favorite Fort Worth locations for maternity photography, especially during the spring when the landscape is at its most vibrant.
