A Fort Worth Engagement Session Filled with Friendship and Fun

This Fort Worth Botanic Garden engagement session with Kodee and Selene felt like the perfect reminder that engagement photos don’t have to be serious to be beautiful.

Between the colorful blooms, soft cloudy skies, and these two constantly making each other laugh, the entire session felt lighthearted, easy, and completely true to who they are as a couple. One thing I loved about this session was simply getting to celebrate Kodee and Selene exactly as they are. Whoever you are and whoever you love, you deserve photos that feel authentic to your relationship, and creating that kind of welcoming experience is something that’s incredibly important to me.

A Love Story That Started with Friendship

Like many modern love stories, Kodee and Selene first connected online through a dating site. But their story didn’t immediately turn into a whirlwind romance.

Instead, they spent years building a friendship, getting to know one another, and creating a connection that naturally grew into something more. There’s something really special about photographing couples who genuinely enjoy being around each other, and these two absolutely fall into that category.

The entire session felt less like taking photos and more like spending an afternoon with two people who happen to be best friends.

A Spring Day at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden

May in Texas can be a bit of a gamble when it comes to weather, but we lucked out with a warm, cloudy afternoon. The clouds acted like nature’s giant diffuser, giving us soft, even light throughout the gardens and allowing all the colorful flowers to really shine.

The Fort Worth Botanic Garden is one of those locations that seems to have a little bit of everything. Around every corner there’s another path, another collection of blooms, or another beautiful backdrop that makes you stop and appreciate just how pretty it is.

It’s easy to understand why Kodee and Selene chose it for their engagement session.

Playful Moments Make the Best Photos

One of my favorite moments from the entire session happened when I had Selene chase Kodee through the garden.

Now, if you’ve ever been in front of my camera before, you know I’m a big fan of movement. Not because I’m trying to make anyone run a marathon during their engagement session, but because movement naturally creates genuine reactions.

The result? Lots of laughter, plenty of smiles, and photos that feel like them.

Some of my favorite images from this session came from those playful moments where they simply forgot the camera was there and focused on each other instead.

Keeping It Real

Not every memorable moment from a session involves the couple, though.

At one point while moving through the gardens, I completely missed a step on a set of stairs and very nearly took a dramatic tumble. Thankfully, my camera survived, I survived, and the only casualty was my pride and a slightly twisted ankle.

I’m pretty sure Kodee and Selene were far more graceful than I was that afternoon, ha.

Why I Love Sessions Like This

There wasn’t anything overly elaborate about this Fort Worth Botanic Garden engagement session, and that’s exactly why I loved it.

It was simply two people who genuinely enjoy each other’s company, spending an afternoon together in a beautiful place.
