One of the first things we get to figure out after you book your family photos is where the heck we’re going to take them. Luckily, there are so many beautiful family photo locations in Fort Worth and the surrounding areas to choose from! You definitely don’t need an elaborate garden or fancy venue to create gorgeous family photos.
Most of the time, I’m looking for good light and pretty scenery. I also want plenty of room for the kids/fur-babies to move around. Ideally, we’ll have enough variety that your entire gallery doesn’t look like we stood in one spot for an hour. 😉
These are a few of my favorite family photo locations in Fort Worth and surrounding areas. More importantly, they’re all places I’ve actually photographed families before!
Every photo you see below was taken during a real session at that location. That way, you can get a much better idea of what your own family photos could look like there. 😊
Tandy Hills | One of My Favorite Fort Worth Family Photo Locations
If you love that wild, earthy, open-field look, Tandy Hills is one of my absolute favorites!
Think tall grasses, rolling hills, open skies, winding trails, and gorgeous golden light. It hardly feels like you’re minutes from downtown Fort Worth (you can literally see it in the distance!).
There’s also plenty of room for kids to move around. We can walk, play, snuggle, and capture all of those little in-between moments – it also helps the session feel much less posed. 😊
The tradeoff? There is some walking involved. Tandy Hills is also more rugged than your typical park, so it isn’t the best choice for anyone who needs easy accessibility.
Best for: Adventurous families, tall grasses, warm neutral colors, open scenery, city skyline, and gorgeous sunsets.
Bonus: This is a hotspot during wildflower season. If you want the pretty spring, colorful flower photos, this is the #1 spot.
The not so fun part: The city of Fort Worth does charge a $150 permit fee to shoot here. You run the risk of being caught and possibly asked to leave if you don’t have a permit.
Cactus Gardens | Fort Worth
Want something that feels a little different from the traditional grassy park?
The Cactus Gardens in Fort Worth are such a fun option! Cacti, gravel, warm earthy tones, and rustic textures give this spot a totally different vibe. The scenery feels distinctly Texas without looking like a traditional country setting.
This location looks especially good with neutrals, denim, earthy colors, boots, or slightly more boho styling. You definitely don’t have to show up looking like you’re headed to the Stockyards – but considering this spot is literally right across the street, you might as well bring the boots and go dancing at Billy Bob’s after your session. 😉
Best for: A Texas-inspired look, warm earthy colors, boho outfits, golden hour setting, and families wanting something a little different.
FYI: It is across the street from the Stockyards, so you will need to pay for parking.
Town Creek Trail at Bose Ikard | Weatherford
This is one of my favorite little hidden gems for family photos in Weatherford.
I usually think of this area as the Ikard trail. This spot is the best for open fields with tall grass! It gives us that open, natural look without having to venture way out into the middle of nowhere, or having to pay a permit fee like Tandy Hills. 😉
You’ll find trees, trails, tall grasses, and a pretty creek (Ikard Creek, get it?) hidden in the trees. It’s a great choice when you want the golden hour setting in a more open area and you want your gallery to feel relaxed and outdoorsy instead of overly manicured.
Best for: Trees, tall grass, earthy family photos, pretty creek/water feature, and a relaxed natural setting.
Soldier Spring Park | Weatherford
Soldier Spring is another great option when you want greenery and trees, but with a little more variety than a completely open field!
There are several different little pockets that photograph beautifully, which means we can move around throughout the session without needing to trek half a mile between each spot. I especially like this area for families with little kids because we can keep things moving, let them explore, and change our backdrop without making the session feel like a hiking expedition.
Best for: Greenery, mature trees, relaxed family photos, and families with younger children.
Bonus: Soldier Springs offers a mixture of both greenery + a more open field area filled with prickly pear cacti. If you want the greenery mixed with an old fashioned western desert feel, this is the perfect spot.
Airfield Falls | One of the Best Outdoor Family Photo Locations in Fort Worth
Water, grassy field, a waterfall AND an epic willow tree? Yeah, Airfield Falls gives us a lot to work with!
It’s one of my favorite Fort Worth family photo locations (a favorite location for anything, if I’m honest!) when someone wants something a little more adventurous. There’s so much more visual variety than you’ll find in a basic open field. We can start in the wooded areas and along the trails, then we can work our way toward the falls for a completely different backdrop. Finally, we can end at the entrance with a gorgeous, billowing willow tree as your backdrop.
Just remember that Mother Nature gets a vote here! The waterfall can look very different depending on recent rainfall and water levels. 😅
Best for: Water, trees, adventurous families, tall grassy field, and lots of variety.
Kimbell Art Museum | Modern Family Photos in Fort Worth
If you want something a little more polished and modern, the Kimbell Art Museum is one of my favorite Fort Worth family photo locations.
The clean architecture, neutral stone, manicured lawn, reflecting pools, and beautiful lines give us a completely different look from the usual park or open field. It feels elevated without being overly formal, and there are plenty of little areas around the grounds that give us variety during your session.
This location is especially gorgeous if your family is wearing neutrals, earth tones, or slightly dressier outfits. It’s also a great option if you love that clean, editorial look but still want your photos to feel relaxed and natural.
Best for: Modern architecture, neutral tones, dressier outfits, editorial family photos, and families wanting something a little more polished.

That really depends on what you want your photos to feel like – But you don’t have to figure it out by yourself!
