This downtown Weatherford elopement was short, sweet, and full of fun little moments. Michelle and Jason gathered with their closest family and friends on a sunny Friday afternoon to get married at the historic Weatherford courthouse.
It was also extremely hot, because apparently Texas had something to prove that day.
They met at the historic courthouse in the heart of Weatherford, Texas, to officially get married.
Downtown Weatherford Elopement with Family and Friends
When I arrived at the courthouse, Michelle and Jason’s family and friends had already started gathering inside.
Pat Deen officiated their ceremony and kept everything sweet, funny, and lighthearted. The ceremony itself was simple and fairly quick.
That’s one of the things I love about courthouse elopements. Couples don’t have to fill the day with traditions that don’t feel like them.
Michelle and Jason came to get married, celebrate with their favorite people, and enjoy the afternoon together.
After they exchanged vows and made everything official, we took photos with their family and friends. Then, we snuck away for portraits of just the two of them.
Moody Portraits at the Weatherford Courthouse
The courthouse gave us the perfect setting for darker, moodier wedding portraits.
We explored the hallways and used the staircases, windows, and historic details throughout the building. The courthouse worked perfectly with Michelle and Jason’s style.
It also gave us a welcome escape from the heat outside. 🥵
Once we finished inside, we stepped back into the Texas sunshine, making our way through downtown Weatherford for the next part of their afternoon adventure.
A Hiccup and a Pivot
One of the benefits of planning a downtown Weatherford elopement is having several portrait locations within walking distance of the courthouse!
After the ceremony, we walked toward Zeno’s on the Square and The Jazz Chapel. Michelle had really looked forward to taking portraits inside The Jazz Chapel. The building has such a unique and beautiful atmosphere!
I had reserved photography time there the week before their wedding. I understood that the reservation would give us access to the space during that time.
Unfortunately, when we arrived, patrons still occupied a large part of the building. The available space looked very different from what Michelle and I had expected. She understandably felt disappointed. The chapel had been one of the locations she was most excited to use.
Wedding days don’t always follow the original plan, though. And that’s part of my job: adapting quickly and finding another way forward! 😊
I didn’t want the reservation issue or its cost to become something Michelle had to worry about. So instead, we focused on the areas we could use. Even with limited access, we found a couple of beautiful spots and created some really fun portraits.
Michelle and Jason handled the change so well. They stayed present, trusted the process, and kept enjoying their first afternoon as a married couple. ❤︎
A Short and Sweet Wedding Day starting a Long and Happy Marriage
Michelle and Jason’s wedding showed that an elopement doesn’t need a packed timeline to feel meaningful. They shared a sweet ceremony with their favorite people. And we got fun, moody portraits inside the courthouse and explored downtown Weatherford together!
They officially began their next chapter as husband and wife. ❤︎
Thankfully, the heat and one unexpected hiccup didn’t take away from their day. We still created a gallery that felt fun, romantic, and creative.
